All athletes physically train to improve their performance outcomes. However, only the elite athletes mentally train. This is because they recognize that the only way they can separate themselves from the competition, is to train differently. When athletes work with sport psychologists and mental performance consultants, they frequently report significant improvement in the following areas:
Are you ready to take the next step? Ben’s applied experience along with his background as a licensed psychotherapist, certified strength & conditioning specialist and certified mental performance consultant have allowed him to develop a practice that is a one stop shop for ALL athletes. Scroll down below to see if Ben’s services, fees and tools are the right fit for your goals!

When athletes start the process of working with Ben, they will first begin with a free consultation phone call. Once the athlete and Ben have agreed to move forward with services, the first step will be to complete an assessment that can be done either in-person or virtually. During this appointment Ben will set goals with the athlete and give a good faith estimate for how long he believes it will take to accomplish those goals.
If athletes want to overcome mental blocks, Ben has a two-step process for dealing with this issue. The first step is to help athlete’s improve energy management skills. This can be done either in-person or through a virtual appointment (Ben’s preference is always to work with athlete’s in-person). Next, Ben typically uses Brainspotting as the final intervention to help athletes overcome this issue. These sessions are completed in-person.
If athletes are looking to increase their mental performance such as focus or mental toughness, Ben will use one or multiple interventions depending on what the athlete’s unique sport demands are. These interventions can be done either virtually or in-person, and include the use of exercise psychology tactics, energy management strategies, or techniques rooted in biofeedback and neurofeedback to train the athlete to handle the stress of sport.
Because Ben places a great emphasis on setting time-sensitive goals with athletes in the first session, athletes should be able to see the progress they have made at the conclusion of services. Approximately every one to two sessions, Ben will check in with athletes to see how they feel they are making progress towards accomplishing their goals.
If athletes are dealing with mental blocks before they start working with Ben, they usually report symptoms of anxiety, loss of motivation, decreased confidence, or unexpected flight, fight, freeze responses. After working with Ben, many athletes report experiencing significant decreases or complete elimination of all the previously listed symptoms.
When athletes come to work with Ben on increasing mental performance, they usually want to improve their focus, increase mental energy capacity, or develop mental toughness. After working with Ben, the majority of athletes report being able to sustain unbroken concentration for long periods of time during sports, and are noticeably resilient during unexpected setbacks.
Because sports are intense environments, overtime the accumulation of stress upon an athlete will have a negative impact. One common result of this stress is the creation of mental blocks such as the Yips or Twisties. Traditional sport psychology does not help with these issues…but a new approach called Brainspotting has finally provided athletes with a tool to overcome this issue.

Neurofeedback is a noninvasive, neuroscience intervention which measures & trains brainwaves. This approach provides real-time feedback about where the athlete’s brain is functioning efficiently versus where their brain needs training. Ultimately, this mind-body approach can help clients develop neural stability which leads to an increased stress-threshold tolerance.

The field of sport psychology is rapidly growing. Almost every professional sports team and collegiate athletic department has at least one or several sport psychologists and mental performance consultants working with their athletes. These organizations recognize that having experts in sport psychology working with their athletes will give them an edge over their competition. As such, new professionals in the field need the proper training to work in these spaces. Fortunately, Ben’s practice offers services that lead to the necessary certification required to meet these demands. Ben has trained a wide range of sport psychologists and certified mental performance consultants who work in the NFL, MLB, NBA, SEC, ACC, BIG10, the US Military and also in private practice.
